The Importance of Being Morrissey
As Channel 4's first ever Factual Entertainment Commissioning Editor, I greenlit this fly-on-the-wall documentary which became famous as soon as it aired - fans across the world still buy illegal bootleg copies on eBay - and it generated such a response Morrissey's floundering career took off again with the release of his first album in seven years: You Are The Quarry.
I, however, was more interested in the song How Can Anyone Possibly Know How I feel? which was based on a line in a letter I had faxed him (when he was moaning yet again about the doc) and which was based on his experience of being filmed. NB Despite the film being a fan favourite, his lyrics include the lines, "I've had my face dragged in fifteen miles of shit and I do not, I do not like it".
Luckily everyone else did...
